The office of county drain commissioner is provided for in the Drain Code of 1956 and established by resolution with a majority vote of the county board of commissioners. The office of drain commissioner is an elected position with a term of 4 years.
The drain commissioner has jurisdiction over all drains within the county - including those established and those in the process of being constructed. |

The drain commissioner makes a report to the county board of commissioners at its annual meeting in October of the drainage districts laid out, the drains constructed, finished, or begun under his or her supervision during the year ending October 1, and the commissioner also submits to the board a full financial statement of each drainage district. The commissioner also must also make reports and furnish information as required by the director of the department of agriculture.
